Read. Read. But beware of wasting your time on theological foam and suds. Read rich doctrinal books about the one who called you to his glory and excellence (2 Peter ).

As one of the top Christian thinkers and writers in the 20th. Centrury, Dr. Stott!s book addresses many of the common issues facing the world today (such as same-sex relationships, euthanasia, marriage, abortion, etc.) from a basic Christian viewpoint, as found in the s:   His broad and deep understanding of the issues really shines in this book in which he traces the historical and systematic development of eight major Christian doctrines from early centuries to the present.

Thought it is, by far, preferable to begin discussing moral issues once we have a solid foundation in metaphysics and the philosophy of human nature, a minimum of instruction in ethical subjects is necessary for living a moral life—assuming that one wishes to live a moral life. However, this book, written for a Christian audience, is a.

This is a review (published in Restoration Quarterly []: ) of Duane Olson's book Issues in Contemporary Christian Thought: A Fortress Introduction (Fortress Press, ). Title: Issues in Contemporary Christian Thought: A Fortress Introduction By: Duane Olson Format: Paperback Number of Pages: Vendor: Fortress Press Publication Date: Dimensions: X (inches) Weight: 1 pound 2 ounces ISBN: ISBN Stock No: WW Many see the Bible as a compilation of books that are loosely related, with no coherent thread holding them together.

Jesus Himself said He is that thread of Scripture (see John ; Luke ). When we understand this, our biblical understanding grows. We no longer see the Bible as a collection of random books, but as one book. In my book I have presented ten tough problems in Christian thought and belief, to whet the appetite.

Please pursue research, read, probe: find out how Jesus, Christianity and theism have all been so convincingly slam dunked. * * * * *. In support of this task, Christian educators are called upon to reappraise their thought and practice in relation to the foundational issues of Christian education.

These foundational issues represent perennial or recurrent ques-tions for those involved in the teaching ministries of the church. They deserve. After finishing it today, I'm dropping my review to 2 stars/5(K). Parts of this book are funny as hell. David Madison claims to address Ten Tough Problems in Christian Thought and Belief.

But, spoiler alert, Madison’s wealth of knowledge, as revealed so admirably in these pages, rebuts far more than a mere ten problems with the Christian religion. My highest and most enthusiastic recommendation.

The quote comes from Dave Foreman, Confessions of an Eco-Warrior (New York: Harmoney Books, ), 5 For a Christian critique of the animal rights movement, see Harold O. Brown, “Hiding among the Animals,” Christian Research Journal, Summer6 Albert Gore, Earth in the Balance (New York: Plume, ), 7 Robert W.

He also knew that they needed some basic exhortations or reminders about the Christian life. The Spirit chose to teach and guide them through Paul himself.

Paul did not threaten to kick them out of the church if they failed to measure up—he simply gave commands that instructed them in the paths of faithfulness.

The DVD and the book reveal “this great knowledge to the world.” Supposedly it is the secret to wealth, the secret to health, the secret to love, relationships, happiness, and eternal youth. The basic premise of The Secret was borne from the troubles that affected Rhonda Byrne. She is a television producer and mother in her fifties.

Why read about the history of Christian thought? Because, if you are Christian yourself, it helps you to understand the faith--addressing everything from where Christians got their ideas of the Trinity and how Christ can be both human and divine to what they think about issues like feminism, globalization and social justice.
